This painting portrays the fall of Icarus. According to the greek mythology Icarus, son of Daedalus, ignored his father's warning on flying too close to the sun with the wings made of feathers and wax which led him to fall to his death. Daedalus had created the wings for himself and his son so they could escape their imprisonment on Crete. Once they escaped Icarus being so filled with the joy of flying did not listen to his father's warnings kept soaring higher and higher towards the sun, which melted his wings causing it to disintegrate and made Icarus fall to the sea and drown.
